Tomorrow my router will be synced up to broadband via PlusNet.

After four months of trying to get on line I can hardly wait!

Unfortunately I still can't use my skype 3 phone - 3's technical support call me every few days to discuss and I keep telling them the same thing but still nothing has changed - Works fine on the train to London but not in this post code . . .

I am obviously living in a black hole that I am trying to turn pink -

The end is in sight!

part 3: Gambling on PlusNet

Thanks to everyone for your concern. Over the last few months I've often felt like I live in the Suffolk equivalent of the Bermuda Triangle.

I wish I could tell you I have wired internet access - but not yet - tomorrow PlusNet come to install the phone line and apparently 5 days later i should be plugged in.

BTcare on twitter have been extremely helpful - a positive side to social media. I can now get on line with BTOpenZone, albeit an expensive way to access the web.

The 3 network have been great trying to resolve the mystery of my Skype Phone not working in this Postcode but fine everywhere else . .

So whilst waiting for Plusnet and a return to Virtual music I have been getting on with some Real Life music demos - some Jazz with Chico Freeman, Christmas songs for Nashville and more tunes for Music Libraries - did I mention my job description is really "professional gambler"?

PART 2: Updates this week on more dismal attempts at getting connected to the grid . .

As someone who has worked and lived on line for the last 20 years these past months have been a humbling and frustrating time

Last week I hoisted the white flag and pulled the plug on my on line performances, ordered DSL from plusnet and am now waiting with bated breath for 9th May when they install a "phone line" . . . in the words of Scottie "How Quaint!"

So this week my Skype Phone still could not access Skype . . 3 customer support is very good but I really have better things to do than spend 40 minutes on the phone trying to let them solve a problem that should not exist in the first place . . .

and then there was BT . . how do they do it?

Last weekend in a fit of desperation I signed up for BTOpenZone ( as opposed to BTFON . . yes confusing isn't it) £39 for 60 hours of sporadic and unstable internet access . . a bargain you say . . . ( USA friends that works out at about $63 . . a dollar an hour!)

The first hint of things to come was when they sent me my user name and password in an email - who's bright idea was that?

Most people using BT OpenZOne have no access to the internet so after parting with their money how do they get to log in? I had to use my 3 dongle to get the required access info from my email. Hilarious really if it wasn't so mind bogglingly time consuming and nonsensical!

Then in the middle of the week when I tried to log back on I was told that my usr name + PW were incorrect - nothing had changed from me - i tried three different browsers and two different computers with the exact same message from BT!

Apparently BTCare via Twitter are on the case . . watch this space

Oh yes and whilst writing this I noticed my 3 dongle had mysteriously gone off line . . must be the wind or a dive bombing swallow . . .

BT I admit defeat; 3 network - I'm sorry but I can't rely on you; PlusNet - I am counting on you!

People say I am incredibly patient ... others think me extremely foolish to have spent so much time, energy and money on trying to get my internet access working so I can continue streaming my on line music shows.

This morning I realised they may have been right and so regretfully I am cancelling everything until my access to the internet gets sorted by PlusNet scheduled for the middle of May.

Here is a brief summary of my adventures which may help people in a similar position. But do remember it doesn't matter how much money you spend, at the end of the day you are at the mercy of the Internet Service Providers.

When I moved to this beautiful place on the Suffolk Coast a few months ago I was led to believe I would be able to get up to 24MB download speed. I don't sign any contract without doing a thorough investigation so whilst moving in I used a mobile broadband dongle from the 3 network, with a 3 skype phone and the library next door!

Everything was working OK as an interim.

After much research I realised I would be lucky to get 7MB Max. from any ISP and there was no cable or fibre optic in the pipeline!!!

As someone who hasn't used a land line phone for over ten years the thought of taking out an 18 month contract to run my 7MB internet through the phone line seemed a little quaint so I started considering using mobile broadband as an option not just as a backup or standby.

I was about to get a contract and buy 3's new super-duper dongle when without warning they pulled the plug!! No access on my Skype phone or dongle … apparently they were working on a tower (I have it back now plus the £5.00 they gave me as compensation)

Meanwhile I kept noticing a BTopenzone page coming on my computer and after investigation signed up for BTFON which worked fine at first and then something happened and I just could not get connected.

What a rip off!! How on earth does BT justify tapping into an existing customer's wifi and charging an unsuspecting person like me anywhere from £5.00 an hour to £15.00 for five days with NO guarantee that you can get or remain on line!

Undeterred I bought a 30 day pass from BT OpenZone to see if that was any better. Another absolute joke … Over the last ten weeks I have spent more time trying to get connected to BT than staying connected.

This morning I had to abandon the on line show - BT I admit defeat

3 network - I'm sorry but I can't rely on you.

Postcards from Japan

I first went to Japan in 1986 on tour with the Thompson Twins and then again in the 1990s when I was working with Cyndi Lauper.

We went about half a dozen times - I loved Japan - so many fond memories of the hospitality and kindness of the people and their enthusiasm for live music.

My last trip was in 2001 - I hope I get to go again one day . . .

A lot of music was inspired by those exciting journeys on the bullet train and walks through the Peace Park at Hiroshima , the beautiful shrines and mountains and islands.

Cyndi first heard my track "Searching" there and started writing lyrics - the song"Mother" was sketched out on a keyboard in a hotel room in Osaka. We used the group Shang Shang Typhoon from Okinawa on "Early Christmas Morning" - it was a dream come true to debut the "Sisters of Avalon" album in Japan in 1996 -7 and to see Ryuichi Sakamoto live at the Budokan . .

Later on my aTHeNa BLue album I used a recording of walking through the Peace Park at Hiroshima and ringing the Peace Bell. It became the backdrop to the track " The Bell in the Park" - You can hear the crows - I was reminded of that when I heard on an interview about the recent March 11th catastrophe that the first inkling something was about to happen came from the crows just before the earthquake.

Japan Benefit at the NoteSHack - this from Krakov Letov who is organizing the event

On 11th March, Japan got hit by a 8.9 magnitude earthquake and 45 minutes later, the North-East region got hit by a devastating tsunami.
This is one of the worst natural disasters to happen in Japan.
To help the people of Japan, Notes Shack Pub is organizing a charity event on 16th March (Wednesday), with all proceeds going to Red Cross, in the name of everyone who donated at the pub.
Second Life is a good medium for charity; I hope we will be able to help the people of Japan, even if we are a small part of it.

The event will be held on 16th March at 12pm SLT with 4 live performers.
The Lineup is as follows:
12pm SLT - christopher Walmer (electronica)
1pm SLT - JamesCorachea Resident ( acoustic instrumental)
2pm SLT - The Rails (indie band)
3pm SLT - Jana Kyomoon (ambient)

I hope you will be able to come and donate. Remember all L$ matters.
The funds will go through PayPal to the charity "American National Red Cross, International Relief Fund".
The receipt will be posted later on Second Life and Notes Shack Facebook, as well as personal message will be sent to the Red Cross about everyone who donated and was involved in the event.

as if i didn't have enough to worry about . . it seems there is a spammer in the works . . why i really don't know . . why bother to go to all of this disruptive behaviour?. . . i mean no one got rich playing music in Second Life . . . and this is a DJ who is playing other people's music . . . so my apologies to the music ALL music Park group - i am considering closing the group at the weekend and opening a new one with invitations to selected members to join - again apologies and to the spammer . . get a life, preferably not a second one that negatively impacts so many people!!

I recently moved (yet again) and it looks like I won't be getting wired broadband into my apartment until the end of March . . . so i am in the middle of compiling a series of "GoodBye Weekend Shows" - (something I really should have done a long time ago) to put on the radio jana server for broadcast each Sunday at the usual time - 2PM PT/10PM GMT

The interim mobile 3G service I currently use is pretty good just not good enough for live broadcasts. I am so sorry to tell you our dear friend Brywnwynn passed away today after a long battle with cancer that metastisized to her bones and brain

I have posted some words she wrote for me to use at my recent Ditto presentation

She was a true inspiration and will be missed very much
